Yachting on the Solent - Team Building Activity

Sailing on the Solent doesn’t have to be a dream.
Poste Haste is a Prout Quasar 50 Catamaran sailing motor yacht berthed at Royal Clarence Marina in Gosport, Portsmouth Harbour. She is 50 feet long and 23 feet wide and despite her large size, her draft measures only 40 inches, thereby allowing far greater access to shallower waters. Because of the Catamaran’s twin hull design, the rocking and rolling motion normally associated with sailing is greatly reduced.

The interior of the boat is spacious, offering plenty of comfortable seating for up to 10 people plus crew. There are three double cabins, each with full ensuite toilet and shower facilities. There is also a fully operational galley offering good food and refreshing drinks. If relaxing and soaking up the atmosphere are top of your agenda, then the deck area is the ideal place to sit back in comfort and enjoy a day at sea. Or if you want a more hands on approach each person can have the opportunity to be a member of the crew (under the watchful eye of the Skipper).

Q: What sort of clothing should I wear and is there storage space?
A: As a minimum, we would suggest that you bring rubber soled shoes/trainers, jeans, a warm sweater and jacket. Whilst we provide waterproofs, in the colder months we would advise that you bring additional clothing and a change of shoes and socks – especially if you’re wearing trainers.

Q: In the event of bad weather, what should we do?
A: ‘Bad weather’ encompasses many conditions from simply wet and windy, to stormy and gale force winds. Your safety and that of the crew is paramount. We obviously monitor the shipping forecast regularly and if we think that the conditions make it dangerous to sail or to deliver the previously agreed itinerary, we will notify you and discuss the options which may include changing the date of the booking to suit yourselves. A day that is a ‘bit wet’ does not necessarily mean that it would be unsuitable for sailing. In fact, it could enhance your experience!

Q: What safety equipment do you carry on board?
A: We have sufficient life rafts, life jackets, safety flares and safety rockets.

Q: Is there parking at the marina and what does it cost?
A: There is sufficient parking adjacent to the Marina and at this time it is free.

Q: Can we change the pre-arranged itinerary on the day?
A: Yes. To a large degree the sailing day is monitored by the weather and sea conditions, so variation is normal. If it is important to go to any particular harbour or place and the wind is in the wrong direction, the engines can be used instead taking into account the time involved for these changes.
